You might be familiar with this Instagram influencer known for both her fashion sense and amazing hair. She has perfected the loose voluminous waves that has everyone trying to recreate the look. So if you've ever wanted to look like an Instagram hair model, this post is definitely for you!
Negin Mirsalehi is an Amsterdam-based influencer. I'm sure you've seen her on your explore page either because of her pretty brown locks, sense of style or her cute teddy bear looking dog, Mosey. I mean Mosey is an influencer in his own right, having over 60k followers which is more than most people.
Although Negin occasionally posts a picture with straight hair, she is known in the Instagram community for having loose waves that really bring out her subtle highlights. These strategically placed strands give her rich brown hair some more dimension. Her hair always brings up my inner debate of whether or not I should dye my bleached hair a gorgeous shade of brown like hers.
So before we talk about styling the hair to achieve Negin's loose curls, let's address the elephant in the room. Negin has a beautiful thick head of a chestnut/cacao colored hair. We aren't all blessed with good hair genes, so if your missing a bit of hair or don't have the same color pigmentation you can always use some clip in extensions for the day.
Extensions can be a great way to add some color into your hair without the bleach (1 shade lighter or darker than your natural hair) and can add some desired thickness for a volumized look.
One of the first steps would be to part your hair down the center and prepare your hair for heat. Since you will be needing to use a curling wand, it's so important to prep your hair with a heat protectant to minimize any damage or hair breakage.
The LAKME K.Style I-Tool Protective Heat-Styling Spray has a pliable hold that works on both straight and curly hair. It protects the hair against heat up to 450 F or 220 C. This spray is also formulated to lock in the shape of the hair once heat is used to style it.
Now that your hair is prepped and ready, you'll need to use a curling tool to get Negin's wavey style. When choosing your curling tool, there are some things to keep in mind. The first would be deciding whether you want to use a wand or a clip iron. For this particular style, a curling wand will probably give you results that are closer to Negin's hair. Negin has very loose waves, whereas I've found that curling irons with a clip tend to produce bouncier and more spiral looking curls.
In terms of the size of the barrel, I would suggest going for a 1" size. I find this gives off the most versalite curls and is perfect for creating Negin's nicely shaped waves. The Hair Forensic Ceramic Digital Curling iron is a great option if you're in need of a new curling want! This delivers a wave that isn't too tight but still keeps it's shape.
Once you're ready to curl your hair, start by taking small sections from the back of your head and move forward. Depending on how much hair you have, you can clip sections up to make it easier to section off as well. When recreating Negin's look, make sure to hold the curl after you release it from the barrel and let it cool in your hand. This will ensure you get a bouncier look so that when you comb through the hair later, it will still have some shape.
So Negin's waves always look pretty natural, so if you can to skip the hairspray you totally can. However if your hair is prone to frizz or fallin flat throughout the day, then a little spray won't hurt. Just try to look for a flexible hold spray so that your hair still has movement and won't feel stiff or sticky.
The Chi infra texture hairspray is a popular option. It smooths over hair, adds shine and gives your hair added texture and movement. However even if you choose not to spray your hair, rub a couple drops of hair oil such as argan oil into the ends. This will help add some shine and keep your ends nourished.
You can now gently brush out the curls using your fingers for the effortlessly tousled look. Strike a pose and take some pictures channeling your inner Instagram socialite.
