Long hair envy? Not for long!

A lot of us at some point in our lives have dreamt of having luscious, long locks, picturing ourselves in a nice summer day strolling around the city as  a light breeze  blows through our hair. However, as most of us already know, growing out our hair can take months! YEARS even!

Acknowledging that lots of patience and constant care  will be involved in this process is the first step towards the end goal. But that's not what you are reading this for. In this blog, we have broken down our advice  into concrete, sizeable steps that you can take to achieve the ultimate long hair goal!

1.) Wear protective hairstyles to bed.

More-often-than-not it's the smallest of things that can really make a difference. Part of the damage caused to our hair can be prevented at home without much hassle by simply wearing it in a braid or bun. What you don't want to do is to leave your hair down overnight, which leads to matted, dry and puffy hair.

If you choose to tie your hair, we strongly recommend using a slinky or scrunchie rather than an elastic. This is because hair elastics cause indentation on the hair and eventually lead to breakage.

For anyone looking for new hair ties,  Salon Club has slinkies which are a great option as they tie all of the hair without snagging or pulling, and won't slide off unlike scrunchies.

2.) Do a natural hair rinse

The perfect Herbs and other natural products have phenomenal properties that can go a long way in nourishing and promoting healthy hair growth. We recommend 2 types of hair rinses which you can very easily do at home: the first one is with apple cider vinegar and the second one is with rosemary.

The apple cider vinegar rinse requires two tablespoons full  poured into a cup of lukewarm water. All you have to do is to simply wash your hair with it after shampooing.

You may also opt for a rosemary rinse, in which case you would take fresh rosemary into a pot and allow it to simmer for 5 minutes or so. Once it cools down, simply pour it over your hair. Rosemary is a great choice since it leaves your hair soft and shiny.

3.) Take advantage of essential oils

One effective way of counteracting dryness is to introduce essential oils into your hair care routine. Good options include moroccan argan oil, rosemary, chamomile, almond, jojoba and lavender.

Lavender oil, for example, is a great option for preventing thinning and controlling frizziness, whilst still hydrating the hair. If you would like to pick one up, Paul Mitchell's Lavender Mint Essential Oil is now  available on our site.

You may choose to use the lavender oil as a hair serum for moisturising your scalp or the ends of your hair. You only need to apply a few drops (somewhere around 3 to 5 ) and you are good to go!

An alternative is to use the essential oil along with your regular hair products, whether it be your shampoo or conditioner. Beware of adding too much, though,  as it can cause skin irritation to your scalp!

4.) Don't wash your hair too often!

Contrary to popular belief, washing your hair more than 3 times a week is neither necessary to keep your hair clean nor is it ideal.

Of course your lifestyle plays a big role in determining how often you should wash your hair, but over-washing  should be avoided at all costs. The reason is that your hair has natural oils and their frequent removal causes your hair to lose moisture and become really dry. In turn, you tend to use hot tools more and more to conceal the dry ends; before you know it, you have entered this vicious cycle, where you are continuously trying to make your hair appear healthier meanwhile further taking away the remaining moisture.

Instead, you can use Paul Mitchell's Lavender Mint Moisturising Shampoo since it is infused with moisture-rich conditioners and amino acids that are made specifically for targeting dry hair.

5.) Get a trim!

As simple as it seems, the best way to promote continuous hair growth is to minimise split ends from happening if you can help it. This is by far the best tip to follow. Instead of spending valuable time and resources on trying to remedy damaged hair, the solution is to just chop off the ends and start over.

If you are looking to save money, then buying trimming shears and doing it yourself may be the most cost-effective. You may want to check Babylisspro Nano-Titanium Shears which have a limited lifetime warranty and are ideal for fast cutting.

Hope this week's post has helped you gain some useful tips in getting that long hair you've been wishing for!
