So, what's National Women Equality Day? Let's get into some history... August 26th is known as National Women's Equality Day to commemorate the day in 1920 when American women were granted the constitutional right to vote - a huge deal. Although it originates from 1920, the first year of celebration was in the year 1973 after Congresswoman Bella Abzug of New York fought to mark August 26 as National Women Equality Day. Go, Bella. We have been celebrating this day, ever since!
Now that you know the history behind this amazing day, we feel its only necessary to appreciate iconic women... and their iconic hairstyles.
The first African-American First Lady; she was all about women's equality, confidence, and not being afraid to speak her mind. If that's not empowerment, we don't know what is.
"Finding balance has been the struggle of my life and my marriage, in being a woman, being a professional, being a mother. What women have the power to do, through our own experiences, is to push that balance out into the culture." Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama
Michelle Obama represents the "independent-strong woman" of today; one of the first campaigns she introduced was “Let Girls Learn". This campaign's sole mission is "to address the range of challenges preventing adolescent girls from attaining a quality education that empowers them to reach their full potential.” This is just one of the many movements Michelle Obama made towards women's rights.
Michelle's Signature Hairstyle: The Bob
We always saw Michelle rock the bob; whether it be a messy bob, a straight bob, or a curly bob - she always worked the bob. The former First Lady was on trend before us! But she added an Obama touch to the bob: side-swept bangs. Style your bob, First-Lady-style.
Michelle Obama's hair stylist, Johnny Wright, shares that what makes her hair so shiny and luminous is by using a deep reconstructing treatment. Try Joico's K-Pak Deep Penetrating Reconstructor; a powerful five-minute reconstructor that rebuilds and strengthens hair!
This woman might as well be the face of every cause and organization; she supports them all. Not only is she gorgeous, inside and out, and a mother of six children, she's a a humanitarian spokesperson. Having donated millions of dollars to countless charities, Angelina is also an activist when it comes to Women's Rights. She claims that women's education and health are the first to suffer.
"This is not about progress for women at the expense of men, but about finding an equal balance that benefits everyone." Angelina Jolie

Meghan Markle, now Duchess of Sussex, is a longtime advocate for women's rights; she even spoke about gender equality at UN Women - if you haven't yet seen it, watch here! Identifying herself as a feminist, Meghan has never shied away from speaking publicly about women equality. In 2016, Meghan had traveled to Rwanda as a Global Ambassador for World Vision. It was this experience that inspired her to bring awareness to girls’ lack of access to education.
"Women need a seat at the table, they need an invitation to be seated there and in some cases, where this isn't available, well then you know what, then they need to create their own table." Meghan Markle

Meghan Markle's Signature Hairstyle: Straight & Sleek
Ever since becoming a Royal, she's been rocking the 'Old Hollywood' waves often, but her original signature look is still our favorite: straight and sleek. Meghan struggles with frizzy hair so she admits to using smoothing lotion frequently; a must-have hair product for the Duchess of Sussex.
To get the same smooth finish as Meghan, try Hair Treats' Smoothing Lotion; a soothing blend of oak bark and dogwood rose that seals and smooths cuticles for frizz-free hair.

Expelliarmus! Emma Watson has come a long way since her Hogwarts days; since then she has become an activist for gender equality and a UN Goodwill Ambassador. With this, she launched the UN HeForShe campaign in 2014, a campaign with the mission of encouraging men to join the feminist movement. In 2016, she then began a feminist book club on Goodreads - is there anything she can't do? We think not.
"Feminism is about giving women choice. Feminism is not a stick with which to beat other women with. It’s about freedom. It’s about liberation. It’s about equality." Emma Watson
