Hair-parting is a big deal.

Why? Because hair-parting has the power to change your facial features.

Center, off-center, on the side, deep side, zig-zag, hair flip, diagonal... The hair-parting options are endless but lucky for you, we're going to break it all down. It's simple, every face shape suits a certain hair-parting style, so identify your face shape and keep reading to find out what the best hair-part is for you!

Why Changing Up Your Hair-Part is SO Important

Before we get into which hair-part is best for you, it is important that we discuss the importance of changing your hair-part every so often. I know what you're thinking: "the hair-part I have now is the only parting style for me!". WRONG - every face shape suits at least two styles of hair-parting which we have summed up for you below! Switching up your hair-part from time to time is actually healthy for your hair; leaving your hair parted in a certain way for too long can lead to breakage and dry spots. So, allow the following to inspire you to part ways with your hair-parting habits!

Round

Ideal parting: Center or Deep-Side

You have a ROUND shape if... your cheeks are the widest area of your face; your cheekbones and face length have a similar measurement and are larger than your forehead and jawline, which also share a similar measurement; you have a soft jaw angle.

A center-part is usually considered to be a tad harsh since it draws attention to little flaws like small asymmetries of the face and uneven areas but, with a round face, this hair-parting style will elongate the face. A deep-side-part is both glamorous and casual at the same time, with the bonus of making your hair look fuller. Give it try!

Oval

Ideal parting: ALL!

You have an OVAL shape if... your face length is larger than the width of your cheekbones; your forehead is larger than your jawline, and the angle of your jaw is rounded.

If you've been blessed with an oval face shape, then you have the luxury to experiment with ANY hair-parting style! You, oval-shaped-face ladies, can do center, off-center, deep-side, zig-zag, diagonal - you name it! Pick whichever you like best and work it. An oval face shape also suits a "hair-flip" hair style, where the actual hair-part is indistinguishable since the hair is all flipped over to one side. Apply TIGI's Volume Boosting Foam and hair-flip away - it's a really cute look.

Square

Ideal parting: On the side (with bangs?) or Center

You have a SQUARE shape if... all your measurements are fairly similar and your jaw angle is sharp.

The goal is to soften your features, trying to create an illusion of a less-square face shape. Parting your hair on the side will accomplish just that! The addition of bangs could soften your angles, but if you are feeling experimental, try parting in the center; it could actually elongate your face and make your cheekbones pop!

Heart-Shaped

Ideal parting: On the side or Slightly off-center

You have a HEART shape if... you have a pointy chin; you have wide cheekbones; you have a larger forehead and hairline; you possibly have a dip in the center of your hairline.

Parting your hair in the middle might not be the ideal parting style for you. Try parting your hair on the side or slightly off-center which will soften your cheekbones and create an illusion of a thinner face.

Oblong (Rectangle)

Ideal parting: Center, Diagonal or Zig-Zag

You have an OBLONG shape if... your face length is large; your forehead, cheekbones, and jawline are similar in size.

If you have an oblong-shaped face, then your face characteristics have more to do with length than width. Your goal is to make your face look rounder, which can be accomplished by parting your hair in the middle - Kim Kardashian style. To enhance your hair volume, a diagonal or zig-zag hair-parting could do the job. Depending on your hair type, one way might be better than the other, so test them out and see which one works best for you!

Diamond

Ideal parting: On the side, Deep-Side or Center

You have a DIAMOND shape if... you have a narrow forehead; your chin is pointy; your cheekbones are the widest part of your face; you have a narrow jaw; your hairline is not as wide.

You can choose to part your hair in anyway that you want, depending on how much emphasis you want to put on those features. Parting your hair on the side or deep-side will create a softer look. If you're someone who wants to achieve an edgier look, we suggest you try a center-part. Parting your hair in the middle will draw more attention towards your features, so if this isn't what you want, part your hair on the side.
