Are they worth it? The answer is... YES - yes, they are. Boar bristle brushes are really the answer to all your hair needs.
Want healthier hair? Boar brush. Want thicker hair? Boar brush. Want stronger hair? Boar Brush. Want to prevent hair from falling out? Boar brush, boar brush, BOAR BRUSH!
Fine to Normal hair: Pure boar bristle brush
Thinning, Delicate, or Damaged Hair: Soft Boar Bristle Brush
Very Thick or Coarse Hair: Nylon Bristle Brush (which we touch on below)
Boar bristles have the same structure as our hair. This means that the bristles have the ability to hold moisture and lift away any dirt, while distributing the natural oils from your scalp to the ends of your hair. Blood flow to your hair follicles also increases because of the massage effect the bristle gives your scalp.
The Boar Paddle Brush
The Boar Paddle Brush, like CROC's Boar Brush, is best for smoothing, touch-ups, and achieving smooth hair for up-dos. This brush works for all hair lengths and all hair types! The 100% boar bristles distribute the hair’s natural oils resulting in shiny hair. It also excels at maintaining those fly-aways, all while being comfortable in your hand due to its special ergonomic shape.
The Round Boar Brush
A Round Boar Brush with a small to medium diameter, like CHI's Small Round Ceramic Boar Brush, is best for volume and straightening, and for short to medium hair lengths. A medium to large diameter, like Y.S. Park's Super G Series Round Brush, will be best for straightening medium to long hair lengths. Like the Paddle Boar Brush, the boar bristles are gentler on hair, while distributing the hair’s natural oils resulting in shiny hair. The round shape of brush makes it so that the bristles are tightly packed, which is excellent for tension control when straightening.
Ideal for: Thick Hair & Detangling
Nylon bristles are less expensive than boar brushes, but still effective. The difference between Nylon bristles and Boar bristles is usually how they are spaced farther apart than boar bristles are. This is to achieve a medium to strong grip on all hair types, but ideally for thick hair. Your hair will result in a smoother and straighter style, the better your grip is.
Use a Nylon bristle brush, like BaBylissPRO's Small Oval Detangling Brush, for detangling your hair.
Ideal for: Normal to Thick/Coarse Hair
Thermal brushes have ionic bristles and ceramic-coated barrels; in other words, they are essential to have in your hair brush collection. These brushes are great for styling, brushing and giving your scalp a massage. Not to mention the beautiful and natural styling results that come with using this type of brush! The ionic bristles maintain a firm grip on the hair, while the brush absorbs heat.
And there are other ionic bristle benefits too...
Round Thermal Brushes
Small to medium diameters are best for achieving curls, waves and volume, for short to medium length hair. Hair Forensic has Ceramic Thermal Round Brushes that are available in 4 sizes; 25MM, 32MM, 45MM and 53MM; small to medium would be considered sizes 25MM and 32MM.
Medium to large diameters, like Hair Forensic's 45MM Round Brush and 53MM Round Brush, are perfect for acheiving soft curls, volume, and flips for medium to long hair.
Ideal for: Normal to Thick Hair & Hair Extensions
The nylon and boar bristle combination for a brush is heavenly; it's for all hair types, but mainly ideal for styling and brushing thick or curly hair, and short to long hair lengths. A great nylon and boar combination brush is Y.S. Park's Tortoise Wood Air Vent Cushion Brush. The bristles, being made of Boar & Nylon, is ideal for brushing and a smooth finishing.
But wait, it gets better!
It also includes ventilation holes on the backside of the brush, which allows the hair to dry quickly. Due to the brush's cushion base, it is gentle on the scalp, which is better for drying wet hair.

Plastic bristles are excellent for detanginling, smoothing and creating volume, texture and movement. Plastic bristles are all-purpose brushes. These bristles are known for how strong they are because they are designed specifically to work through larger areas of medium to thick hair.
Other than your regular plastic bristle combs, Denman's Vent Brush With Ball Tipped Bristles is the perfect plastic bristle brush to have in your brush collection!
