With so many different types of flat irons being thrown your way, it presents the question: is there even a difference? And if so, which one should I be using?
Look no further - I’ve put together a brief guide to help you find the perfect flat iron for your hair needs!
Ceramic flat irons are the most popular plate material on the market due to it’s proven performance and moderate cost. You get an excellent value for the money spent on a ceramic flat iron in comparison to cheaper, aluminum options.
Ceramic flat irons glide through hair without pulling and tugging and they heat up quickly and evenly.
Although ceramic won’t give you the superior results of tourmaline or titanium plates, they do offer an excellent value for the majority of consumers who don’t demand a lot from their flat iron or don’t use it every single day.
Titanium is a metallic element found in igneous rocks and it is known for its strength and durability under high heat. That being said, titanium straighteners are some of the most durable on the market heating up to high temperatures almost immediately, AND they are scratch resistant.
They offer very even heat distribution which allows for fewer passes on your hair offering great results on all hair types. However, caution is advised when using a titanium flat iron at home since due to the fact that they can reach extremely high temperatures. Make sure when choosing a titanium flat iron that there is a micro-chip which controls the temperature level.
Tourmaline is a gemstone which is crushed into fine powder and used to coat ceramic plates and it aids in the smoothing process by offering 20 times more moisture-locking ions than normal plates. Tourmaline generates the extra negative ions needed to counteract the positive ions that are found in dry and damaged hair. This results in smoother, silkier, frizz resistant hair. Plus, this ion technology seals in moisture and natural oils into your hair - providing an ultra-sleek look.
Tourmaline plates also generate infrared heat which removes static from the hair and closes the hair follicle upon contact, which minimizes heat damage to the hair. The plates are also notably smooth which results in less tension and pull on the hair.
